Dealing with toenail fungus can be a frustrating and embarrassing experience, often preventing people from wearing their favorite sandals. While there are various treatment options available, such as topical solutions, medications, and laser treatments, some at-home remedies can be quite unconventional.
At Remedi Nail Spa, we take a more organic approach to combat toenail fungus with our step-by-step Remedi Pedi process. Our tailored toenail fungus treatment cares for all nails, not just the affected ones. In this blog, we'll break down each step of our Remedi Pedi so you know exactly what to expect during your visit. Please note that while we are experts in our medi-pedi process, we are not medical professionals and our advice should not be taken as medical advice. We always recommend following the advice of your doctor and not going against their recommendations.
STEP 1: Consultation
Before each treatment, we spend time with our clients discussing their health history and any past or current treatments they are undergoing for their foot health.
STEP 2: Cleansing
We may do waterless pedicures, but we never skip on cleansing! We spray a natural antiseptic to prep the feet and nails for treatment. Then, we remove any old nail polish.
STEP 3: Callus Softening
If the feet require it, we apply a callus softener to any thick parts of the skin and let it work through for a few minutes by wrapping the feet.
STEP 4: E-filing
While waiting for the callus softener to take effect, we apply a nail softener (we use Gehwol Med Nail Softener) to soften the nails. We remove as much of the infected part of the nail as possible by debriding the thickness of the nail with the e-file and cutting away any remaining loose nail. We don't remove any of the nail that is still attached to the nail bed, so there is no discomfort during the process.
STEP 5: Callus Reduction
By this time, the callus softener has taken effect and softened the excess callus. Using either our Footlogix or Angel Feet Foot File, we reduce the thick callus and smooth out the rest of the skin.
STEP 6: Cleanse and Exfoliating
We use a natural whipped sugar scrub by Joellen's Natural Soaps that incorporates a coconut powder cleansing agent to do a final cleanse and exfoliation to remove any remaining dead skin. We then wrap the feet in warm towels, leaving them clean and silky smooth.
STEP 7: Paraffin Wax Foot Mask
As a new addition to our Remedi Nail Spa services, we offer an optional Paraffin Wax Foot Mask that can be added to any treatment. The Thermabliss Nourishment Paraffin Blend soothes and hydrates tired, achy feet. This blend includes vitamins A, C, and E, plus green and white tea extracts known for stimulating self-hydration and blood flow to the feet.
STEP 8: The Final Touch
To complete the service, we apply and recommend using an anti-fungal solution, which we buff into the nail. We use and recommend Nail Mycosis by Imperial Feet. We then apply a hydration product targeted towards specific skin concerns, whether it be to combat peeling skin, athlete's foot, dehydrated skin, cracked heels, etc.
Conclusion
Treating fungus is a process that requires maintenance Medi Pedi appointments every 6-8 weeks. It's also important to be diligent in using the anti-fungal solution twice daily. Consistency with maintenance can lead to positive results within the first 2 months, but it can take up to a year or more for a new healthy nail to grow out completely.
Overall, this treatment takes a little over 2 hours. However, every client and every condition is different, so times can vary depending on the level of fungal infection.
